Torti Gallas is pleased to announce that Skyland Town Center in Washington, DC is moving forward! With the recent signing of a lease by Walmart as the anchor tenant, this 1,250,000 SF mixed-use development can begin construction.

Skyland Town Center will transform the former site of a strip retail center into a vibrant, mixed-use town center. The many challenges of this project include the introduction of a comparatively higher density to the existing neighborhood and the architectural integration of a town center that includes the new 125,000 SF Walmart. A pedestrian friendly urban environment will be established along a central Main Street which terminates at the Walmart entry. The new 18-acre Skyland Town Center will include 476 residential units, 342,000 SF of street level retail and structured parking for 760 cars.

The large scale mixed-use project gained entitlement through the Planned Unit Development process. It required the successful inclusion and participation of stakeholders through a series of community meetings, public hearings and design charrettes.
