Torti Gallas is proud to announce the appointment of John Torti to the National Board of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU). He was officially inducted to the Board at CNU23 recently held in Dallas, Texas.
The CNU is the leading organization promoting walkable, mixed-use neighborhood development, sustainable communities, and healthier living conditions. CNU's membership works to restore existing urban centers and towns within coherent metropolitan regions, reconfigure sprawl into communities, conserve the earth's natural environments and preserve our built legacy. The CNU's Charter includes a set of principles for achieving these goals.
As President of Torti Gallas and Partners, Mr. Torti has provided the strong conceptual leadership to bring his firm to national recognition. His firm has been the recipient of over 100 national design awards in the last 15 years.
With offices in Washington, DC, Silver Spring, Maryland, Los Angeles, California and Istanbul, Turkey, he and his partners have built a firm that understands the inextricable tie between urban design and architecture for clients and for communities.
Mr. Torti joined the firm in 1973. Under his leadership, Torti Gallas and Partners and Torti Gallas Urban have focused their practices on TransNational Urbanism, mixed-income and mixed-use architecture and neighborhood design, and transit-oriented mixed-use architecture.
In recognition of his many design contributions in architecture and urban design, Mr. Torti was elected to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows in 2001. In 2004, Mr. Torti became a LEED Accredited Professional. He is a member of the Advisory Council for the School of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame. As a testament to his design leadership, Mr. Torti was awarded the Paul H. Kea Medal for Leadership by the Potomac Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2007.
