Warrior in Transition Complex

Fort Belvoir, Virginia

As part of its program to rehabilitate wounded warriors returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army developed standards for Warrior in Transition campuses that include living quarters, administrative offices, and a soldier family assistance center. At Fort Belvoir, Torti Gallas’ scope included the design of two barracks buildings and the planning and landscape design of the entire complex. All of the WIT facilities together form a complex and provide a cohesive mission in the healing process of the soldier.

The site has been designed to provide a functional, pedestrian oriented campus which meets all requirements for parking, circulation, AT/FP standoff distances and storm water management. The two Warrior Transition barracks, the Administrative and Company Operations Facility and the Solider Family Assistance Center are arranged to form two beautifully landscaped courtyards, which provide for efficient and convenient site circulation and offer outdoor amenities for the residents of the barracks and their families and visitors.
