The existing Silver Spring Transit Center consists of several modes of travel which provide transportation options within the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area and across Montgomery County. The Phase I improvements include the relocation of the MARC station to the Transit Center. The project will construct new platforms, a pedestrian overpass, a temporary ticketing trailer, and pedestrian connections to the existing station.

Phase Two will establish a strong overall architectural statement that celebrates public transit and promotes its use. Vertical circulation systems at the street edges help to communicate how the Transit Center functions. Several modes of transportation will be integrated into the new facility. Retail space will be provided on the street level to further enhance the viability of the Center.
