Portner's Landing

Alexandria, Virginia

In designing this urban residential development in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Torti Gallas was faced with the challenge of designing homes which would be consistent with the rich architectural heritage of the city while at the same time planning for enough units to make the project feasible to our client.

The resulting design solution was a mix of historically sensitive new construction with an update of the existing architecture. By adding two stories to the existing brewery building on the site, we were able to accommodate the townhouses, which are designed to fit behind the brewery, thus preserving the historical character of the neighborhood. The 4-story brick townhomes have rear entry 2-car garages which are accessed from a service alley. The creation of an attractive new street within the development further adds to the project's appeal.
