The Village at Shirlington

Arlington, Virginia

In developing the addition to this existing commercial street, Torti Gallas was faced with several design challenges: integrate a greater mix of uses on the site by providing residential over retail; extend the existing retail street and provide an appropriate point of termination, and; provide for an urban "face" along the roadway.

The new urban design scheme more clearly defines the street by creating three levels of apartments above the street level retail. The apartments have courtyards which open onto the street. The retail street is terminated in a square at the cinema entrance.
