Braddock Place

Alexandria , VA

Alexandria, Virginia

The four buildings which comprise the Braddock Place complex are of different shapes and graduate in height from 4 to 7 stories consistent with the scale of the surrounding low-rise buildings. Open balconies create a terrace effect. The buildings are sited to create a pedestrian mall lined with restaurants and shops. The long, narrow four acre site is adjacent to a Metro transit station and bounded by the metrorail tracks along one side. The combination of red brick and punched windows fits in with the architectural context established by the city’s historic building tradition. The two block urban space has a rich fabric, with brick paving, benches, shade trees and flowers, clock tower, fountain, pergola, and gadsby lamps that match the city’s “Old Town” streetscape.
