This rapidly expanding facility grew from 71 students in 1972 to over 1,000 enrolled full-time and part-time students 20 years later. Located in a beautiful suburban site in Frederick, Maryland, Frederick Community College was in need of a strong plan that would order their growth and allow a beautiful campus setting to evolve from what once was a beautiful rolling meadow.
The balance of pedestrian open space, building sites, outdoor recreation facilities and parking space was the critical formula for a successful plan for Frederick Community College.
Torti Gallas also designed the new Learning Resource/Academic Building which houses classrooms, administrative offices and a Learning Resource Center. The facility contains a 15,000 SF library, a TV studio, a media center used to down-link video programs from satellites to produce instructional tapes, a computer equipped testing and writing facility, and a nursing laboratory.
