The Project Designer is responsible for leading the design vision and execution of multifamily and mixed‑use projects, from early planning and concept development through design documentation. This role serves as the design lead within the project team, translating placemaking and architectural concepts into clear, compelling, and buildable design solutions.
The Project Designer works closely with Principals, Project Architects, and project teams to ensure design intent is maintained throughout all phases. This position requires strong design judgment, effective communication, and the ability to guide teams, consultants, and clients through complex design decisions while meeting project schedules and budgets.
This position is based in‑person in the Tampa office and includes opportunities to collaborate with teams across multiple offices.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Concept Development
• Lead design efforts for multifamily and mixed‑use projects from planning and concept design through design development and construction documentation.
• Develop strong placemaking, site planning, andbuilding design concepts aligned with client goals and firm principles.
• Guide design discussions with clients,consultants, and internal teams.
• Translate conceptual ideas into clear drawings,diagrams, and presentation materials.
• Participate in and lead internal design reviews,critiques, and pin‑ups.
Design Execution & Documentation
• Collaborate closely with Project Architects toensure design intent is accurately carried through technical documentation.
• Contribute to and oversee design development andconstruction document production.
• Review drawings for consistency, clarity, andadherence to design intent.
• Utilize hand sketching, SketchUp, Enscape, andAdobe Creative Suite to communicate design ideas effectively.
• Support quality control efforts throughoutproject documentation.
Project & Consultant Coordination
• Coordinate with consultants to integrateplanning, architectural, and urban design components.
• Support project scheduling, staffing, andworkload planning in coordination with project leadership.
• Maintain awareness of project scope, schedule,and fee to support effective design delivery.
• Assist with construction administration as needed to support design intent in the field.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
• Mentor and guide Staff Designers and junior team members on design thinking and execution.
• Provide clear design direction and constructive feedback.
• Foster a collaborative studio environment that values creativity, accountability, and professional growth.
• Support the firm’s culture of design excellence and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or a related field.
• 5–7 years of professional experience with a focus on multifamily and mixed‑use projects.
• Demonstrated strength in placemaking, site design, and building design.
• Experience leading design efforts and coordinating with clients and consultants.
• Strong visual communication skills, including hand sketching and digital modeling.
• Proficiency in: – Hand sketching – SketchUp –Enscape – Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) – AutoCAD – Revit –Bluebeam
• Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and exercise sound design judgment.
Preferred Attributes
• Licensure in Florida (preferred but not required).
• Experience across all project phases, from planning through construction documents.
• Ability to balance conceptual design leadership with technical coordination.
• Demonstrated mentoring and leadership capability.
• Interest in long‑term leadership growth within an architecture and urban design firm.
• Appreciation for collaborative, principle‑based design culture.
