Project Description

Located in Baldwin Hills, southeast of downtown Los Angeles, The Vantaggio is currently a vacant lot in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Facing the challenge of a very steeply-sloped site, Torti Gallas and Partners successfully designed this hillside project to enhance the community of Baldwin Hills, deliver unbelievable views to downtown and an existing park, create interesting urban living and promote a more pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

Two condominium buildings enclose a unique landscaped courtyard with a water feature and gathering places. The parking garage is conveniently located under the courtyard and connected to the courtyard level by an outdoor elevator. The architecture is designed to reflect a hip, yet elegant contemporary urban character. Massing, material and fenestration on the park side facade create spectacular views from every unit, and offer strong contrasts between the vertical and horizontal elements, the solid and the transparency. The south facade responds to solar exposures, while the composition of trellis, canopy, baywindow and balcony creates a rich texture for the architecture.
