Cafritz Foundation Arts Center

The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation Arts Center comprises the transformation of an industrial bakery into a multi-use arts complex. The design transformed a blank concrete box into a vibrant, interactive place for students and the community and a central part of Montgomery College’s Silver Spring campus.

The design team listened to faculty and staff at each stage of the process in order to create a comprehensive design that responded to their multi-faceted requirements. Choosing to utilize the existing building to conserve resources and save money, the facility provides space for community artists and organizations, in addition to housing the college-wide computer system and central plant. The art studios take advantage of the dramatic ceiling heights and a spectacular art gallery welcomes visitors to the school.
